Effects of Reducing Class Size
Nowadays, gradually class size has been reduced. It is trend in education system today. When it was 1980s, there were about 50 students in one class in Korea. Teacher couldn’t concentrate to each student and students also couldn’t participate many times in their class at that time. However, there are many effects in a small size class. If there are a few students in a class, teacher can be concerned about and can control each student, and it makes concentrate and participation increase in a class. Teacher and students also can have a discussion teaching, and it communication improve in a small size class. In additional, students can have community consciousness in a small size class, and it helps stability of students’ emotion.
First, if there are a few students in a class, teacher can be concerned about and can control each student. Teacher is one, and students are a large number. If there are many students in a class, one teacher can’t pay attention to each student. Supposed that there are 50 students in a laboratory work and one teacher have to confirm their experiment whether they do it or not. At that time, teacher can’t confirm all students. Suppose to the reverse situation. If there are 25 students in a class, teacher can control students in a short time.
Second, teacher and students also can have a discussion teaching in a small size. For example, if there are 50 students in a class, all students can’t speak own opinion because class time is limited. However, if there are about 25 students in a class, teacher and students can conversation education, not the cramming education because they can participate in a class easily. Students in a small size can express their thought easier than students in big size class. Activity discussion education makes communication skill improve. Therefore, communication ability of students who is in a small class is better than students in a large class.
